While the type and scope of landscaping services vary in cost, professional landscaping companies charge an average of $1,363 to $5,640 to design and install new landscaping features. Those features may include such services as planting a small tree for as little as $150. However, changes such as planting a mature tree could run as much as $3,000, depending on the size of the tree. Regular watering is necessary for maintaining a lush lawn, but with today’s busy lifestyles, who has time to pull a sprinkler around the yard? The larger the yard, the more work it is to keep it manually watered. Inconsistent watering can negatively impact the yard, causing the grass in various areas to grow at different rates. The grass may be tall and green in some spots, but patchy and dry in others. Factors that can affect labor costs include whether the employer offers benefits to workers, such as health insurance or retirement savings accounts.

You may decide to install a rainwater collection system, which will cost $1,000 to $3,500. In areas where seasonal low rainfall or drought are common, collecting rainwater is a great way to make use of the natural moisture when it’s available and save some for when it’s not. A rainwater collection system can be connected directly to your irrigation system, allowing you to redirect the water from your roof to be used to water your own lawn or plants. Keep in mind that several states have regulations regarding the collection and private use of rainwater. The average water usage cost for a household in the United States is $1.50 per 1,000 gallons. Of course, some areas of the country may use significantly more or less water on lawns because of climate and humidity differences.

In areas with less-than-average rainfall, it is necessary to water lawns and landscaping manually in order for them not to become dry. Sprinkler systems are cheaper than most homeowners think and DIY installation is also an option, that provides savings upwards of 30%-40%. Repairing broken sprinklers costs $100 to $400, depending on the type of sprinkler and the extent of the damage. Leaks are a common problem that may start as a small irritation and develop into something greater. A leak repair can involve the replacement of a sprinkler head, a section of the inground lines, or a valve box. Pressure changes within the system are never ideal and could cause more significant problems in the long run, so those should be repaired promptly.

If you are planning to make any renovations, seek advice from the original installer of your fire sprinkler system. If there is any chance that your building or house may go through major changes, especially with the water routing, you would need to change the fire sprinkler system as well. Inability to do so may result to failure of the system or may render it useless. Weather Conditions – this factor can greatly affect the fire sprinkler system since the equipment will be supported by pipes.

How Much Does It Cost to Install a Home Fire Sprinkler System?

Consideration needs to be given to a whole range of installation aspects and questions asked around, What is the water pressure like? What is your available water source and what amount of water is available? All of these are relevant when doing flow calculations and figuring out how many sprinkler heads or emitters you need and how far apart they need to be spaced. The national average cost of installing a sprinkler system is between $4,000 and $7,000. Most homeowners spend about $5,500 for a professionally installed in-ground sprinkler system with an average controller for ½ acre of land. At the low end of the price range, you can spend as little as $2,200 to install an in-ground system on ¼ acre of land.

The next step to building a home lawn sprinkler system is to make a sketch of the area where you plan to install it. Mark the areas according to the water requirements, depending on the type of vegetation that grows in individual areas. You can be carefree with a professionally installed sprinkler system. This might also be the best choice if your state or local laws are strict about this. On the other hand, you feel immensely proud after completing a DIY project successfully.

How much does it cost to install a sprinkler system?

In this scenario, a high-pressure sprinkler can be outfitted with pressure-reducing valves to regulate the flow and lower the pressure to certain areas, for instance, bubblers and misters. These pressure-reducing valves can also be installed if you notice that instead of a steady spray, your sprinkler heads are misting. The irrigation components will wear out more quickly with a sprinkler system water pressure that is too high. After installing sprinklers, you may want to spend more time outside, admiring your green lawn with friends and family. Pergolas are great for outdoor socialization, and most pergola installations cost $2,100 – $6,000. However, handy homeowners can save money by building a DIY pergola.

These systems are much more straightforward and simpler than their in-ground counterparts. The sprinklers are placed directly on the lawn and connected to a faucet or spigot through a hose. With the turn of the faucet, the water comes on and provides irrigation. This is the most affordable and economical option, better suited to small yards with minimal lawn and garden areas. If you do not want to install permanent sprinklers, above-ground systems work.

Irrigation System Cost by Type

They all play a critical role in the process of activating the fire sprinkler system. Alarm Valve – based on a certain level of pressure, this valve releases the flow of water until the pressure is regulated. Labor setup time, mobilization time and minimum hourly charges that are commonly included for small Lawn Irrigation System Installation jobs. These estimates are for BASIC work performed in serviceable conditions by qualified trade professionals using MID GRADE materials. Set Project Zip Code Enter the Zip Code for the location where labor is hired and materials purchased.

This process involves sowing grass seed over an area to start new growth and restore the lawn. You’ll pay $3 to $10 per pound of grass seed if reseeding as a DIY, or between $450 and $1,550 if hiring a pro to do the job. Hen you install a sprinkler system, say goodbye to wrestling with hoses, getting wet while moving the portable sprinkler, and spending all your valuable time babysitting the lawn. Flow rate, you should measure the number of gallons of water per minute . Divide the size of the container by the number of seconds it took to fill. Take this result and multiply it by 60, to get the flow rate in GPM.

Other costs to prepare for

At the lower end of the scale, the cost is $500, and the high end is $5,000. You will spend considerably less on the whole sprinkler system if you choose to install it yourself. The only drawback is that you will have to learn how to actually do this. It might seem like a hard thing to learn, but youtube is full of videos with step-by-step information on how to install and operate a sprinkler system for your lawn. This Old House also shows you how to install in-ground sprinklers in one of its guides. For a fully covered lawn without any dead zones or dry spots, the recommendation is that the spray from one sprinkler should fully overlap the spray from the opposite head.

If you hire a lawn irrigation service to install a sprinkler system, they may suggest some related services as add-ons for your project. Choosing to install add-ons at the same time as your sprinkler system can translate into savings since the company you hire won’t have to make multiple trips. The type of soil you have will likely impact the cost of installing a sprinkler system. Rocky soil or a dense layer of hardpan soil is harder to dig through, causing installation to take longer and raising costs by up to $0.40 more per linear foot.

Still, these systems can cost as much as $7,000 for professional installation, so deciding to put one in should be carefully mulled over. The NFPA 13D guidelines recommend that a residential fire sprinkler system should cover rooms that are considered living spaces. Standard systems cover 12-foot by 12-foot areas, and extended coverage sprinklers cover 20-foot by 20-foot areas. Sprinkler heads must be installed at least 8 feet apart, which means most rooms only need one or two sprinkler heads.

Regular watering helps grass grow strong, making it more resistant to damage from drought and disease. Reseeding or overseeding a lawn runs between $411 and $1,554, so it makes good sense to take steps to ensure the grass receives the correct amount of water. The average lawn needs about 1 inch of water per week—too little water and the grass can become thin and patchy. Too much water and grass roots develop just beneath the soil’s surface, rather than digging deep, which weakens the grass.

Installing an automatic sprinkler system will allow you to set it up and forget it when it comes to watering your lawn, so you can spend more time on other projects. Using an electronic panel, you can schedule waterings for times that work for you. A typical yard in the suburbs is about a quarter-acre large, and the sprinkler systems cost about $2,500 to $3,500 to install. The cost to install sprinklers on 1/2-acre lawns runs $3,500 to $5,500, and 1-acre properties cost $6,000 to $10,000. The amount of trenching required depends on the coverage area of your sprinkler heads and the complexity of the system. Obviously, the size of your yard is going to be one of the major factors that impact sprinkler system cost.

cost to install lawn sprinkler system in home

Having a pro that is familiar with all of these issues can save you a lot of time, money, and frustration. A pro will help you determine how many zones will be ideal for your yard. Homeowners usually pay between $10 and $40 for gear driven sprinkler heads designed for above-ground use. These sprinklers rely on uniform rotation to water large flat areas and are quieter and lower maintenance than other varieties on the market.

A certain amount of cutting of sod is necessary for the install, but the lawn should return to normal within two to four weeks. It is best to consult a sprinkler system professional about permits, licensing, inspections, and backflow requirements in your area. Every state, county, and city regulate sprinkler systems differently. In almost all cases, you will need a permit if the system connects to city water, and backflow requirements are becoming the norm in most areas.
